Participants/Categories: the contest is open to all businesses, clubs/groups, civic, non-profits, schools, churches, and governments.
Registration: Participants must submit an application with a non-refundable entry fee by Monday, September 27th. Applications are available by SUBMITTING ONLINE:

Mail applications to the Butts County Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 147, Jackson, GA or you may bring by the application to the Chamber at the Butts County Welcome Center inside the historic courthouse. A representative from each entry must check in at the Chamber of Commerce on October 1 between 10:00 AM- 6:00 PM to get the display number sign and location verification. This information will also be emailed to your representative.
Divisions and prizes: a cash prize will be donated to the charity of your choice to the display receiving the most Facebook votes (“People’s Choice”). Only those votes on the Butts County Chamber of Commerce Facebook page will count. Prize monies will be dependent on the number of entries.
Set Up and Removal: Scarecrows/decorations must be displayed only at their assigned location and should be in place by Monday, October 4th at 6:00 PM, remaining until October 31st, unless written arrangements have been approved by the Executive Director. Any scarecrow displayed at the courthouse square without being entered may be removed. Scarecrows, decorations, and all debris must be removed by 7:00 PM, Nov. 1st. No stakes/poles/spikes may be driven into the sidewalk, and no ropes may be used to attach the scarecrow to city lampposts, signs, or benches. ABSOLUTELY NO DIGGING ALLOWED on the courthouse lawn. All scarecrow displays should employ anchors such as sandbags to keep the scarecrow (s) in place.
Signage: Entries may use 1 yard sign (1.5ft x 2ft) to advertise their organization or business. No political signs or statements are allowed, however. The Chamber will provide a contest numbered sign with the exhibitor’s name, which must be affixed prominently on the exhibit (This will assist with voting.). These signs may be picked up at the Butts County Chamber of Commerce between 10:00 AM- 6:00 PM on October 1st.
Design and Construction: You may build your scarecrow off-site and assemble it at your assigned location on/near the square. You may have more than one scarecrow, but structure must be able to fit within a 4 x 6 space and no taller than 8 feet, and it cannot impede pedestrian or vehicle traffic. Please refer to the layout map and rules that you will receive prior to Oct. 1st. The scarecrow must contain hay, straw, or cornstalks in its design and be durable enough to withstand all weather conditions. You may use costumes and accessories, but no real pumpkins (plastic pumpkins are fine) or loose hay or straw due to the duration of the display. NO candles are allowed. Please check on your scarecrow throughout October as it may need occasional maintenance. Scarecrows must be designed in “good taste” and not considered offensive or “non -family friendly.”
Voting: “The People’s Choice” popular vote will determine the winner. Voting will take place on the Butts County Chamber of Commerce Facebook page beginning Wednesday, October 6- Friday, October 22 at 6 P.M. For votes to count, the voter must “like” the posted scarecrow picture on the Butts County FB page rather than on a shared post. There will also be one (1) “Best in Show” award given that is judged by an impartial panel. The winners will be announced at the Butts County Fall Festival on October 23rd.
