Local Leader Launches Memoir:
Book Sales and Signings January 27
Curtis Gaye will sell and sign copies of his recently released memoir on Saturday, January 27, from 3-5 pm at the Historic Courthouse and Visitor’s Center on the Square in Jackson.
The Butts County Historical Society, Butts Men of Action, and the Butts County Chamber of Commerce are hosting the event.
Gaye’s book, If I’m Lying, I’m Flying is subtitled 40 years of Barbershop Stories. “I found that by telling the stories we shared, I can bring and keep the whole barbershop family together again and give readers the opportunity to become a part of that extended family.”
“When I started writing, I was recording barber shop stories, tall-tales and one-liners, but soon, I began adding family stories, school stories, football stories, and church stories,” he said. “The book became a collection of stories about growing up in small-town Jackson during the fifties, sixties, and seventies. I hope it is informational, entertaining, and inspirational,” he said.
Gaye graduated from Henderson High School as Valedictorian in 1957, from Morehouse College with Honors in 1961, and from the Atlanta Law School as Valedictorian in 1979. He became a Master Barber in 1961 and cut hair every weekend until 2000. He taught high school for 16 years and practiced law from 1980 to the present. He is a founding member of the Butts Men of Action a community service group that supports education and the Youth of Butts County.
“I hope all my Jackson friends---many are actually in the book---I hope they will come to the signing and talk to me about old times,” Gaye said. “
