Paddle The River
June 1: Paddle the Alcovy River & Ice Cream Giveway
What is Paddle the River?
The Jackson Lake Paddle Club offers a chance to get together with fellow paddlers to explore some of the beautiful waterways that feed our lake. Popular trips include a remote portion of the South River, the lovely shoals on the Alcovy and the narrow backwaters of Tussahaw Creek. Trips are about 3 or so miles long and last about two hours, often followed by a group lunch.
Paddle what you like -- kayaks, canoes and stand up paddle boards are all welcome. We offer a shuttle service, too! With advance notice, we can transport lake residents and their boats from their dock, by lake on a pontoon boat, to the start of each event. Paul Cox organizes the shuttles and brings the cookies!
Why Should I Join the Paddle Club?
Paddling our beautiful local waters is fun. Paddling with your lake neighbors and others who enjoy paddle sports is even MORE fun. Plus, the boat shuttle makes it easy to get from your home on the lake to the start of the paddle.
Who Can Attend?
Any paddler!
What's the Cost?
FREE! The Jackson Lake Association graciously pays for the boat shuttles. There could be some costs associated with parking if you put in at one of our local marinas, so be sure to check with the marina.
What Should I Bring?
Of course you'll need your boat and paddle, but definitely also bring a personal flotation device (lifejacket) that fits and floats. Also, bring along some water, sunscreen and clothing appropriate for watersports and the outside temperature. Consider bringing a towel for after the paddle event ends, too.
How Long Do the Events Last?
The events are scheduled from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. but we sometimes schedule group lunches after the events. We'll be sure to announce the details before each event.
How Many Miles Do We Paddle Each Time?
Each paddle is about 2-3 miles. The pace is very leisurely. Slowing down for snacks and good conversation is encouraged!
Where Do We Meet?
We'll announce the details before each paddle. We pick a place to start the paddle that's easy to get to from a lake marina or by using the shuttle boat.
