The Jackson-Butts Council for the Arts Meeting
The Jackson-Butts County Council for the Arts will meet on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at the Daughtry Foundation Building, 221 E College Street in Jackson. Social time will begin at 6 pm.
Members are asked to bring their choice of an appetizer to share during social time, or any salad or veggie side dish, or a dessert. Hosts for the evening will be Stuart and Al Jordan, Pam and Andy Stevenson, and Freida and Buzz Kutcher. The hosts will provide a traditional corned beef dinner, with potatoes, carrots, onions and cabbage in honor of St. Paddy’s Day. Water and tea will be provided; members may bring other beverages of their choice.
Following our meal, we will turn our attention to a program featuring David Cooper and his family Slavic Band. This is a program you will not want to miss! DAVID C. COOPER grew up in a family of musicians and was influenced by the varied musical cultures represented in Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania. He studied numerous instruments in formal and informal settings and graduated from the University of Illinois with degrees in Ethno-Musicology and Social Work. While at Illinois, he was a member of the famed University of Illinois Russian Folk Orchestra, the Persian Orchestra and the Wind Ensemble. After moving to Atlanta, David has performed with the Atlanta Opera, Atlanta Ballet, The Alliance Theater, and The Atlanta Civic Center among others. He has served as music director of the Atlanta Balalaika Society since 1986, teaches members of other balalaika ensembles and conducts workshops at the annual convention. His credentials are outstanding, and we are fortunate to have him as our guest! A business meeting will conclude the evening’s agenda. Guests are welcome to attend to learn about the Council and how we support the arts within our community.
